Re: Wardancer Uses

Against transformation you just issue a challenge with the champion and then dispell it during your phase... yeah. And unless he is pretty stupid, he will accept with his one ;) And yep, you will dispell it for sure. But not before most of your unit will disappear ;) No, really, this is one of the ...

Re: Alter Highborn ( close combat version )

I always kit him out with the bow of loren, arcane bodkins, a great weapon and then the 3+ ward save item that doesn't help against magic. Yeah, this is my 7th ed build. I do not like it in 8th tough, as you can hardly hide him out of LoS of enemy mages - and if he is within their sight, even stupi...

Re: Alter Highborn ( close combat version )

- Ogre Blade (2+S) and Potion of Foolhardiness What is an advantage of Ogre blade, comparing to 2HW? Striking last is not that much issue, as you really wish to keep this character alive, so he must survive attacks no matter if they come before or after his ones. But when you take 2HW, you have mor...

Re: Wardancer Uses

With MR3? 2+ ward against magic... So only the spells denying ward saves are dangerous, and most of them we can dodge (purple sun,etc...). Yeah, correctly. Lets see... Dwellers? No wards, check. 13th spell? No wards, check. Gateway on 11-12? No wards, check. Ecstatic seizure? No wards, check. Bad m...

Re: Wardancer Uses

even if dwellers is really dangerous, it is the only spell (with 13th spell) that can menace this unit. Ok, so that is one spell (dwellers), 2nd spell (13th), then 3rd spell (Gateway)... 4th is Ecstatic seizure, 5th is Bad Moon, 6th is transformation of kadon, 7th is Plague... You are not immune to...

Re: The Hunter’s Talon

If I were to use it I would maybe use them on a Noble in a unit of Glade Riders. Glade Riders, being fast cavalry, are ideal to escort such a character. They also are costly and squishy. And with 140 pts point 2-wounds no-protection noble isnide, they are something like "open me please free vi...

No. Why? Because there is nothing about "suffer no penalties for moving and shooting" in our AB, if you check the rule properly ;)

Re: The Hunter’s Talon

It is way too random and you need to spend pretty much points on it (that + noble). Usually Taloins if fielded is combned with Shrikes. That makes your noble to have 2 sniping attacks. But they are way too unreliable. I was testing it for some time and hey - there where battles where it snipes down ...

Does the killing blow special rule kill an entier unit if you roll a 6 to-hit or does it just kill enemys depending on how many 6's you roll to-hit?  Each 6 kills one model (in case of charactere on the mount, it kills only character). I'd really like to see the lists you've been using. Have you been "doing very well" in competitive/tournament environments? In competitive? Yes. In tournaments? Well, I was playing only 1 8th ed tournament so far; and it will not be better. I am usually an umpire on the tournaments. Tough...

Re: Wardancer Uses

For the price of the base Wardancer unit and it characters with no items or armor, which is 642 points I can have 9.8 Treekin. I would venture a guess that 27 strength 5 attacks will 9 stomps is going to do more damage to the enemy than 14 wardancers with 2 heroes and a lord with Storm of Blades to...

Unicorn's WE blog 1 - why to play WE?

Why to play Wood elves? No, really, I mean it. Why to play WE? Why? You know all the reasons why not: They are weak. One of 3 very worst armies in WFB right now. At least, that is what they say. They are overpriced. Their AB is old, their unit are weak and overpriced. You have like 4 units you need ...

Unicorn's WE blog 2 - Why I like 8th

Hallo there. Well... Where to start. OK. So. I am dedicated WE player. They are my 1st army I play with and they are the army I play most. They are the army I have the most consistent results and they are the army I am trying to use in any serious games. I have pretty decent W/L score with WE in 8th...

Re: bsb banner / magical item rule

Unicorn, I purposely make the unit attractive and it is deployed to be a magnet for the opponent's best units. Of course, it is screened by a unit of Dryads and flank protection of Treekin and wardancers. In that case, you have strategy and that is good for you - because strategy is what win you th...

Re: bsb banner / magical item rule

@ Unicorn : what if your opponent casts Dwellers on turn 1 on your general? Or turn 2 when you moved forward a bit... It may happen, and this (opponent have dwellers on some strong mage) is one of the situations you should consider to change your usual deployment. Many players have like "set i...

Re: bsb banner / magical item rule

I find by the time the enemy hits my Glade Guard unit I've done something wrong in the game. For me, it happens pretty often that the enemy manages to charge my GGs. On other hand, if there is still the BSB inside of this unit, then I've done something wrong in the game for sure. For me, GGs are un...

Re: do scouts effect who gets the +1 for deployment?

If you deploy scouts in your deployment zone instead of using the Deployment Special Rule, you get the plus one if you have less units. The rules are simply providing an extra point cost in our case for the scout ability to deploy anywhere and for that sweetness you are also allowing your opponent ...

Re: do scouts effect who gets the +1 for deployment?

So our scouts are overpriced and we conceed a 16% advantage to our opponents for the critical 1st turn. Fantastic. In a normal world an Elite Army (which our unit prices would indicate) would have less units and have the advantage of going first more often using the 8th edition deployment rules. I ...
