Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
Most of the things you cite as problematic and are trying to deal with shooting are really best dealt with by one of two things: 1) Unicorn- Flank, maybe horn pushes a wound, and charge. You win combat by three. That sends most single model units packing by itself. When dealing with one rank units o...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
Actually, this is not just a Euro vs 'Merica thing. Different time zones within the states have different approaches to the game in general. Some of this tribalism comes out in the US Masters, itself, actually. But, yes, putting bonus points into WLD is essential for several reasons. It stratifies t...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
UK Masters events with W/L/D have typically seen very cagey play and lists built around gaining a small lead and then taking no risks at all. I can see how introducing bonus points could influence things. In one of the bigger events here, say about 70-100 players, a player needs bigger wins under 2...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
@Q10- I like most of what your list is about, but there are some things I would change. No BSB- Risky, but probably worth it in this army as long as you get the Gleaming Pendant on the key unit (EG in this case) to hedge your bets. If your area uses a lot of fortitude based scenarios, you might want...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
I'm not quite getting the scoring point. If a guy is 500 VP's up under W/L/D he will try to disengage IMHO. Under 20-0 he might well push to score max points. My experience is the opposite. In WLD, the guy with the lead can afford to engage in an attrition war, trading lesser units with the opponen...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
I actually like the lore attribute more for WE than the others, but I have been running the Unicorn gag almost universally since the new book came out. I have commented on it in another thread, but the look on people's faces when you explain to them how Protection Counters work on a model with a 4++...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
Oh, and even if you don't run the Unicorn gag like me, High is still a really good lore choice. Walk Between Worlds breaks the game for this army. But if I was not running the unicorn, I would invariably take Metal to handle armor or Heavens for the range and utility. Woodies really don't need high ...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
Small update to this topic. I posted some recent GT overviews on my blog (phazael.blogspot.com), but the short version is this: Having played the Swedish game in two events, back to back, my takeaways were this: 1) Sister-Star is not worth running. In both events, no one who took it did very well at...

Re: Unicorn Lone Weaver
Mounted models may have paired weapons, they simply do not benefit from the additional attack rule they confer, unless they have a special exemption like Savage Orc Boar Boys. Anyhow, I have been running the unicorn combat gal for a while know, to great effect. Here is my observations on her: 1) Bui...

Re: Unicorn /w Swedish comp question
Yeah I get penalized up the but for having a unicorn and two five packs of sisters, even though I never put her with them. Swede comp assumes the worst, based on their Meta, at all times. If you want a high score, you either have to dump the sisters or the unicorn. I suggest the sisters. They are go...

Re: Dragon List for West Coast GT
Addressing some comments: Bow of Loren- Couple reasons here: I am pretty tight on points at this point. Also, occasionally, some joker will run BOTWD and deathstar their characters in the unit and being able to snipe without the shot granting a 2++ is more useful than a second no armor shot. Mostly ...

Re: What have people been using to deal with big creatures
Not for everyone, but for things I cannot shoot, my normal answer is one of three things: 1) Large unit of Wild Riders to the face- This solves a lot of problems and even if they get killed, the enemy is so mashed up that shooting can polish off the survivors. Ideally, I want them to be used for cle...

Waughpaca End Times GT
First a word about the event and its hosts, Rogers and Bear. This event is, without a doubt, the most fun event I have ever had the privilege to participate in. In three years, I have never had a bad game despite there being no special comp or sports scoring. It is an awesome event from top to botto...

Re: Unicorn Lone Weaver
Too many points to sink into two models, especially since woodies lack the ability to generate more dice in the magic phase. I tried running two L4s and found that one of them was always idle. Further, with the High Weaver, you nearly always want her using all available dice to generate counters.

Re: Unicorn Lone Weaver
I have run her at three major GTs so far with good success. Once I am done decompressing from my Wisconsin trip, I will post my Pa a bat reps. My Alamo bat reps are already around here. She is way more viable than people think, but you need to be solid with movement and decision making in the magic ...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
Astorre- Don't take the high casting value spells unless you need Unforging for a specific reason. And, honestly, sometimes Quench is not worth taking if you plan on fighting early and often. Stick with the consistent buff spells that pump things up. Any turn where you can do Hand, Walk, and Hand/Ap...

Re: Tried Swecomp?
Elves get hammered hard, really. Honestly four treemen scare absolutely no one. Daemons are all over the place, with some stuff over comped and other stuff way under comped. Dwarves are the army that gets a totally free pass. There is a guy going to Grail Quest who has 2 cannons, Stone Thrower, orga...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?
Wood Elves are not really a viable army for the Masters Format for the simple reason that the format demands trying to achieve complete wipeouts on the opposing player. Wood Elves are not built for this, in any form. Woodies are a consistent narrow win army, especially in a field where the caliber o...

Re: Phazael's Alamo Shennanigans-
The ward save adds more to their durability than skirmishing does, plus I have found that in games one flank will often collapse and the speed of the Sisters helps me out. If it is my flank that takes a dive, I can get them to safety. If I am rolling the flank, then I can get the Sisters involved in...

Re: Phazael's Alamo Shennanigans-
Ok, so post action unit by unit analysis. Normally, I do these in army list order, but doing this in reverse order will make for a better read, so lets start with the Rares and work back towards the characters: Eagle- Amazingly, the bird managed to live through two games to the end. It did what eagl...

Re: Phazael's Alamo Shennanigans-
Ok, so Alamo is done and over. Now that the hangover has worn off and I have some reflection time back at home in SoCal, I wanted to give a few quick batreps. But first a couple small disclaimers: There was an error in AB3 where it undercharged me for the Stag on the BSB, which I corrected by dumpin...

Re: Spellweaver w/ Unicorn
Yeah, I just used to be better at it. Too old and too many editions to keep it all straight, I guess. But there are definitely errors in AB3, unfortunately. I have just been lazy with double checking those sorts of things of late.
