I heard that elves were going to get a major makeover as well. Kind of a combo of Native American, Aztec, and Pict. Outright dead is nasty but certainly not the only criterium to make cannons nasty.. loosing 2-3-4 wounds when you still need to fight the enemy army isn't all that either.

Putting the 2nd rank in a new unit that can

1. charge the same target and get the charge bonus for all attacks
2. charge another target if needed
3. charge the same unit in the flank if still pinned by the first unit

That makes loosing a few attacks not as bad as you portray it.
