Re: 10mm WE

Eureka has an excellent but very small range. Some of the Wood Elf Warriors sculpts could make decent Wardancers or Archers, while Forest Hags and Trolls would make good Dryads and Treemen, respectively. They even have Warhawk Riders and an Orion model (complete with hounds!). The cheapest way to ge...

Re: Goodbye Asrai.org

Hah, 5th Edition is still the only edition I play. I just love the army book and the fluff and never felt later editions improved on it much. I remember when Asrai took over from the forum at Machiara's Battle Glade. It was sad to see that community go, but I learned to really appreciate Asrai as we...

Re: [5th Edition] Beating Chaos Knights?

I absolutely love Glade Guard models, but I agree they are one of the less useful units in the army list (I'd give that honour to Warhawk Riders with bows—another gorgeous model, but a unit that guaranteed never to earn its points back). That's in practice, anyway. Theoretically, with a hero and a g...

Re: [5th Edition] Beating Chaos Knights?

Ooh, I think I can help there. I just found this website the other night. It seems to have all the magic items, spells and special cards (like chaos gifts etc.) from 5th Edition. The 5e Battle Magic book on Scribd also has a summary of every card in the set. Too bad, I couldn't find the banner I had...

Re: [5th Edition] Beating Chaos Knights?

Thanks for the tips. I'm not married to any of the magic item choices so I am happy to drop Bow of Loren if it will help. As far as the units... My hands are somewhat tied there, as they are most of the models I own for Woodies and it is damn hard to find the old 1990's sculpts these days (not a fan...

Re: [5th Edition] Beating Chaos Knights?

If it helps, this is my typical army list (2,018 points): Wood Elf Pine Glade Kindred Wood Elf General (365) Light Armour, Longbow, Hail of Doom Arrow, Bow of Loren, Black Amulet, Great Eagle Mage Champion (151) Rod of Power, Magic War Paint Hero (170) Ogre Blade, Armour of Meteoric Iron, Spear 5 Wa...

Re: [5th Edition] Beating Chaos Knights?

Yes, that's the one. Any pointers? I am thinking there is a useful Magic Banner that might be helpful in holding against a Chaos Knight charge, but I'm travelling right now and don't have my cards handy.

[5th Edition] Beating Chaos Knights?

I was hoping to find some good tips on Machiara's Battle Glade but sadly it seems that most of the tactics section has been gutted on that website. Does anyone have any good tips for defeating Chaos Knights with Wood Elves in 5th Edition? The problem I am having is that these guys are devastating on...

Re: Oldhammer Wood Elves?

Hmm, fair enough. Do you mean how did the Wood Elves used to play, or how did Scarloc's Archers used to play? I think the rules for the Archers are in an early White Dwarf I don't own, so I cannot help there. As far as the army more generally, it seems like it would have been heavy on archery blocks...

Oldhammer Wood Elves?

Hello all, I was hoping someone might direct me towards some good old school Wood Elf tactics articles. I made the shift back to 1987 3rd Edition Warhammer (sometimes called "Oldhammer") and I'm hoping to get a better handle of the army in that version of the game. So far, it looks like wa...

Re: "What Minis I Got" List

Thanks for the comments! I was thinking Life myself, it's an amazing lore. I just haven't found any character other than Spellweavers (with Life or Beast) to be of any use in 8th edition. Maybe in highly specialized army lists, but still. Granted, the Treeman Ancient with 50 points of Spites could b...

"What Minis I Got" List

Here is an army list based on what minis I got, which are in turn based on what minis I found "cool looking" in a 1996 GW catalog when I dropped my first $100 on this hobby. Mind you, I hadn't ever seen a game at that point... Spellweaver (Hail of Doom Arrow) - 245 10 Glade Guard - 120 10 ...

Sabreur, you said we'd do especially well against O&G in 8th? I'm curious as to why you feel this way. O&G seem pretty strong in 8th, at least to my eye.

1,500pt Defensive Army

I'm playing around with the idea of this 8th edition list. Essentially the Spellweaver is there to get the necessary access to Lore of Life, which boosts the Dryads, Eternal Guard and Treeman extensively. The Treeman is there to give a little access to Treesinging, and for his new stomp attack. The ...

Re: Wood Elves and 8th Edition...

I flipped through the book and watched a game (that the Wood Elves won, by the way). One thing is clear, the aggressive skirmisher-army strategy of the previous edition (with march blocking, fleeing from charges, flanking the enemy) has to be largely dropped. However, I see really good things for a ...

I'm thinking around 30 models, at the moment. Are they unpainted (primed is OK) and complete with shields and bases? If so, I'd be glad to take them off your hands.

Looking for Metal Glade Guards!

Hey, as I posted at Macharia's Battle Glade, I'm looking to buy/trade for old metal Glade Guards (with spears). Anyone have any for sale, or seen any for sale recently? Thanks!

Amazingly, the tree isn't flammable, anyone else notice that? Anyway, the thing doesn't move, so you could just Treesing a forest onto it and rock it with Lore of Life (in a 2 player game) or multiple Treesinging attacks.

Bringing down big things has always been a tough point for the Wood Elves.

A Novel Idea

I've only just recently joined the conversation about Nemesis Crown, but it seems to me there is a lot of confusion and misdirection. I blame this on a few things: First, GW gave us a very ambiguous role in the campaign. Second, other factions are flooding our forum with their ideas for alliances. W...

I actually dont think the High Elf core is bad at all.... its their Elite and Special Choices that isnt great.. the dark elf is the weakest in the core area... but kinda makes up for it in the special area. The other Elf mages have nice arcane items too. And I would say their lores are better than ours (at least on paper). Lore of Athel Loren is useful... but it hasn't affected my games as much as I'd like (probably because my opponents make sure I get as few forests as possible). How can they? Under ...
