Re: Rowena's piece of the forest - 7/9 Harpies finished!
Damn that's a cool unit! I had to double take at the wing tip balancing one when I thought "wow she's actually flying, how the **** did you do that... ooooh" I like the shrine of asuryan filler too, works really well with the columns to make a ruined temple, and the spacers fit in sw...

Daylight bulbs, the brighter the better! I have a monstrously big one, like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Triple-Bright-Lamp-Tubes-Daylight/dp/B004ZUJ9H6 I can't recommend it enough. Its near full spectrum light so pure, bright white = easy colour contrasts and definitions. I have never had eye stra...

Re: IoB Griffon to Eagle Noble
It has been done as a conversion though I've yet to see a really good one I'm afraid. I would argue that it is not worth it! My main issue with it as an idea is anatomical accuracy combined with economy. The wings are to the rear of the eagle's legs, so would need to be brought forward to the bird's...

Re: OOP Models and Filling in the Blanks
If you mean this range of glade riders: http://www.solegends.com/citcat1997/1997p182-02.jpg Then yeah, they'll fit fine (been looking at options for this myself since the horses from that range are pretty ridiculous). However you will want to fill the gap under their arse, its not too much bigger th...

Re: GW metal treekin venting
I have a rotary tool, but I prefer using my 12v Makita for pinning jobs - particularly with metal models. Sounds overkill I know but I can hold it much steadier which reduces drill snaps. Also, a word of warning, drill bits blunt more quickly and snap more frequently once they get hot. When drilling...

Re: what was YOUR first army list?
Lol, it seems like another age but the 4th edition boxed set had a bunch of plastic troops and printed cardboard cut-outs with these little round bases to slot them into! The artwork was decent quality and colour-printed so not so bad. The modern boxed sets are much better value with real models

Re: what was YOUR first army list?
My first army list... Eltharion cardboard cut-out, repeater bolt thrower cut-out, 20 spearmen + 2x10 archers... goblins had Grom's chariot cut-out, wyvern shaman cut-out, bazzilion orange spear goblins and a bunch of night goblin archers... bring it on 4ed! Then I collected undead (still 4ed) and I ...

Re: Non-Woodelf Army: Gargoyle Beastmen
Its up to you in the end, I just feel that looking at the testers you've done the gors and others will end up looking like every other beastman army, just a bit greyer than norm, with some stony gargoyles added in. Not a bad thing in itself and done like the testers above it'd be a good looking forc...

Re: The Shadowleaf Sentinels
I agree; once the enemy get in close your archers are going to die - quickly! So after the second or third turns you'll feel that those 50-60 shots are not really worth their points. In all honesty anything over 30 shots per turn is overkill! Their usefulness diminishes fairly rapidly as a game prog...

Re: Non-Woodelf Army: Gargoyle Beastmen
Stick to the stone theme. If you have a really good look at examples you'll find that rocks can vary in colour enormously - simple example being to compare pink to green marble with a couple of google searches - though I'm not suggesting that as a beastmen inspiration! Check out the terracota army y...

Beno, this army is shaping up fantastically well...love the freehand banner and the overall look and feel so far! Hall of fame army coming up I think! Thanks mate :) Wow that is a great conversion! Which one?! Every unit/model that I've done for this army has been modified in one way or other apart...

Re: Beno's blog - something's finished!
Thanks Moose. Freehand requires three simple factors, to make it work for you: 1. A good design Easier said than done - that BSB's banner took about 6 months of re-designing 'til I had an idea I liked (the lyndorm dragon/wyrm) and the final leaf background only came to me a couple of weeks ago to ti...

On with the update. Really like your colour scheme. Sorry if you have already answered this but what have you used for your EG heads? Love the helmets and mohawks They're Dark Eldar Scourges, and yeah mohawks rock, some of them have mini 'fro's too! Had to hunt around for a bits store that had enough of them in stock....

Re: River Elves
Surprised I missed the previous couple of updates (i know, they were nearly a month ago now) but the army looks really great in the cabinet. I'm glad you went with a 'standard' basing scheme - the river wading idea sounds great for a display board but would look seriously weird on the table - wherea...

Another thought I just had... Totem Pole Treekin!!! Would look completely unique, thoroughly fun and totally wild  It would also fit really well with your fluff. I'm sure you could order some nice simple kids toys totem poles of various scales and simply g/stuff some legs on! That or just base ...

Such a cool idea. I'm really looking forward to how it progresses. That site has quite a lot of info to take in though - the section on symology alone is enough reading for a whole weekend! I came across this image in particular and thought he'd make a really cool beastweaver; the skinwalker... imag...

Re: Too Many Dragons (3 x 2600 Lists)
just a couple of things I noticed. In your last synopsis, of the weaver in list 1, you suggest dropping her steed and going it on foot with the dryads. Unfortunately she can't. It would be lovely if we could but the "glamourweave" kindred must take a mount - and mounted characters cannot j...

I've had a look through some of the books before and had a look through some more after I saw this post - namely the Special Characters one and mostly looking for the Wood Elf characters - of course! I wasn't sure with how to use them, mostly because a lot of those guys have magic items which are cu...

Did a fair bit of work on these guys at the weekend - just didn't get round to photos and stuff 'til this morning since I've had too much else to do! Eternal Guards are about 50% done, though my camera doesn't like the colours! I really can't decide on a decent unit filler (see that guy with the rea...

Re: i need a scheme/theme!
Nifty idea - and definitely a time saver. I'd love to see your process for that, see how you get it to work. I've tried making proper casting molds with silicone rubbery stuff and they came out ok, but its expensive so I've only ever made some movement trays and 'quick-bases' of ruined cities for a ...

Coooool! Hair is tricky to sculpt, but my view is that as long as the strands are smooth enough you can get away with it - so these are perfectly good to my eyes! I love the way they coil and weave through each other. I really like the feather cloak too - its a lot of work for a whole army but you g...

Re: Getting back to warhammer, need advice
So just to be clear: I don't NEED a BSB, it's not a rules requirement. For some reason I always assumed it was. Indeed, not a requirement of the rules; fear not it is perfectly 'rules-legal' to run an army without a BSB. Cool, 500 points per month should see you be able to fit that bsb in next mont...
