In a small teamed battle (1600 points) having a cheap BSB + magic in a hard hitting knight bus is nice.
The trebuchet helps out too (making enemy characters hide).

In an ETC list Lore of shadow on lvl 4 and a Branchy with Beast did really well for me.
Altough magic wasn't the key factor (having 200 extra points, real ward saves and asf was )

You might see the ocassional level 4, and yes that may ruin everything. Just try and find your style.
At 800 points Wood Elves work like magic in almost any setup.
