Re: Wardancers and their uses
[Edit: I would like you to consider that a Lord or Captain adds to the overall attack profile of a unit. Even if that one unit is expensive, the real comparison should not be against other characters, but rather against the points that he or she contributes to gaining for you. So what, if your chara...

Re: Wardancers and their uses
There’s another way to use a character in a unit of glade guard. Take a Guardian for that ET unit to soak up any challenges. Then, kit your lord or captain out for extra killing. Really, I would suggest some armor and/or ward talisman, then kit him or her out with an extra hand weapon or a strength ...

Re: 500 point 8th edition army
I wouldn't use way watchers in close combat, unless the fight was obviously unfair and in my favor. Remember, they have low toughness and no armor. They get two attacks, but have low [edit: strength] . I actually love waywatchers. However, they are good at thinning troops and hunting war machines. I...

Re: Got FAQs for new book?
Sorry if someone has already asked about it. Also, I'm writing from memory, so if I have it wrong, please forgive. Under the Asrai Spear entry, it states, Fights in Extra Rank. Is that a special rule on top of the extra rank of spears? So... In open ground, four ranks: first rank, supporting rank, s...

Re: Got FAQs for new book?
Agreed. So, effectively, this enhances them as war machine hunters? Sorry if someone has already asked this question, but I found something interesting in the new AB last night. The unit size for Great Eagles is listed at 1+. However, the unit size for a treeman is simply 1. Does this difference mea...

Sorry if someone has already asked this question, but I found something interesting in the new AB last night. The unit size for Great Eagles is listed at 1+. However, the unit size for a treeman is simply 1. Does this difference mean that we can take any number of Great Eagles, just as long as they ...

Something So Obviously Missing...
So, I haven't been on the forums for quite some time. Excuse me if I'm rehashing an old discussion. I was fooling around and making a list a while ago when I realized something interesting about the current WE army book. There are no archers at all in the special block. Sure, there are Warhawk Rider...

It might make the wood elf army more interesting, fluffwise, if certain items belonged to specific personalities.

Re: Wood Elves rumours
Your last point is well taken. I agree that the introduction of the different kinds of engagements makes the game a lot better. Also, excuse my ranting, as I've not been on the forums for a while. However, the point isn't that WFB should be a completely gridded out game that starts out the same ever...

Re: Wood Elves rumours
Sorry for the lam-rant (lament-rant), but I'm still blown away by the terrible business practices by GW. You know, the real difference between chess and Warhammer (yes, I know there are many) is that, in chess, you have a completely equal playing scenario. I know that GW couldn't hope to take WHFB a...

Re: Wood Elves 2012
More theme around the seasons wouldn't be too un-fluff-wise. While it might look funny, there's no reason not to use your winter-themed elves for even a summer army. Why not? Fortunately, I went with a Fall theme, so I might be able to stretch it most of the way (with spring being a bit of a leap). ...

Re: Eternal Guard Fighting Style Question
It seems that the eternal guard rules are a bit in question these days. Verbatum, the rules don't say anything about not getting a 5+ armor save vs. shooting. My understanding is that it's as if they are wearing heavy armor. I'm not sure if the armor save is supposed to be actual armor, fighting sty...

Re: How to use Glade Riders
I have yet had an organ gun some sneak-up on my WoodElf army, but you never know what those sneaky Dwarves are up too! With (I believe) a 24” range, the organ gun need do nothing but sit there. Throw in a cannon and a sizeable unit of quarrellers or thunderers, and there is indeed a problem. That’s...

Re: How to use Glade Riders
Haven't been on in a long while, and there seems to be some heat to this debate. No need to get so worked up! It's only a game and a chat forum on the game. Let's get worked up about the impending US credit default, gender inequality or world hunger instead... However, I've spun through the comments...

Re: How to use Glade Riders
One unit of fifty skaven slaves with slings, turning anf firing twice, even at long range, equals one dead unit of glade riders, guaranteed. Just about the only thing that glade riders will be able to avoid would be move or shoot models. Anything else will take the penalty and rely on volume to fill...

By good do you mean the only?
Why not just take a highborn and fill the core with Eternal Guard, then? That way, you're less likely to simply hand over points like a good cut of horse steak.

Re: How to use Glade Riders
Due to the restrictions of the models I have to field, I run a unit of 5 glade riders in larger games. I have vague memories of them doing something of note once, a few years ago. Other than that, I consider them a success if I manage to have something chase them off the board, thus removing them fr...

Yeah. What's with the skulls all over everything? It's like there's no terrain piece for those who do mind wallowing in dead bodies.
I guess there's no such thing as a funeral in the Warhammer world.

Good point on LoS, Pop! Maybe something like a mega waystone would be in order? I tried to make a waystone ages ago, but it looked like crap, and it never quite came together right. Re: How to use Glade Riders
Benigno, I'm not suggesting that you're going to completely surround a unit all at once. However, flank charges are not that uncommon. It does stand to reason that, if we build a list that is as mobile as we can get it, we will be more likely to hit at least one flank. Personally, my problems with t...

Re: Concerning Allies, Strategies and Tactics
LoL. Fair enough. Let me play devil's advocate, though. It's easy to say that dwarfs would suit wood elves as an ally because they bring heavy armor and heavy toughness. However, are there special items (runes, perhaps) that you would find particularly meaty for a wood elf army? Which items, and how...
