November Modelling Challenge
This month it's back to basics again, we want you all to show off the true core units of your WE armies. The theme therefore is: Unit of Glade Guard And I'm certain the viewers will appreciate banners flying, the sound of horns being blown, and the elegant swords of the wood elves raised menacingly ...

Congratulations, Baardah, another scalp in your well filled belt! I ought to add that there were many great entries this time, and very hard (for me, at least) to pick a winner. Thanks, folks!

Shouldn't the eagle take a panic test from the scouts breaking from combat? Result of the throw of dice "2d6" : 4 + 4 = 8 Shaken, but not stirred... I'm not sure about fleeing from combat, has this changed from 7:th ed? I don't think so. I've been trying hard to erase 7th from memory late...

Re: Your Treekin conversions
If you're not 'really' a modeller, then sculpting your own treekin is a perfect way to start. You can start with wire, sticks, plastic sprues or whatever material you like, and whatever you end up with, it will be almost for free and just as good as the expensive GW models...

Re: 2000pts, first crack at Wood Elves
I have another Dryad to spare and 3 Glade Riders. What would you recommend to expand to 2500 if I wanted or to give options at 2000? I was thinking more Dryads and turning the Noble to a Highborn. Maybe a Battalion instead if I can spare some more money. It depends on what kind of army you want. AT...

Re: suggestions for a brettonian force
Bulking out your men at arms unit is probably a good idea, giving you a cheap tarpit. Pegasus knights are fantastic, 1-2 units of 3-4 gives you a lot of control of the battlefield. Trebuchets are popular, and Damsels a must, I believe. Other than that, it's mostly knights, knights and more knights.....

Re: Hello everyone.
Welcome to the forest, Wargamer! :) Reading through your post here and having just answered your 'wood elf questions', I must add that a lot of the good/bad armies/units discussions on the web relate to fairly competitive gaming environments. If you are mostly going to be playing your brother, I'd s...

Re: Wood Elf questions from a possible new player
1. Why are they not so great by most players? -WE got hit by the rule changes to 8th edition. Our playstyle has been altered, but the army is not as bad as many people believe. 2. How do they play? I suspect a big long range game to wither opponents down before they hit you and let the combat unit g...

Re: The Golden Arrow (DE) vs Herald (WE), 2,5k 8th
Firstly, I noticed what I think are some small errors in your moves: -I believe the GG would end up almost 2 inches to the right of where they are now, fleeing along the centre to centre line. -Under the new rules, the Black Guard is not allowed to wheel backwards, only straight moves can be execute...

The Glade Guard will flee: Result of the throw of dice "2d6" : 5 + 3 = 8 Which takes them down to the tower, I'll have to check if they need to be moved over and take DT tests. Edit: The angle takes them well clear, of course. Do you redirect? Panic check for the Eagle: Result of the throw...

Sorry for my rules mistakes, but I haven't played that many 8:th ed games and don't have the books so I'm still learning. No sweat, I'm still learning as well. :) (Seriously, I'm learning a lot from this charge sequence alone. Like placing scouts for instance... One thing is knowing the rules, anot...

Re: The Golden Arrow (DE) vs Herald (WE), 2,5k 8th
As far as I can tell, you can only choose to Hold against an overrun charge, as explained on pg. 58, Pursuit into a new enemy. I haven't seen anything specific regarding overruns and charges, but BRB refers to it being a pursuit move, and under Pursuit into a new enemy, that is how it is spelled out...
