Re: 9th age Woodies are out! Lets discuss!
Just realised the treefolk elder doesn't have the option for any magic items, so no magic banner :( By viable, I don't mean I expect our melee characters to be especially brilliant, just that they won't be actively bad any more. A captain with guardian kindred, light armor, shield and spear already ...

Re: 9th age Woodies are out! Lets discuss!
My first impression has been very positive. Highlights being: - 4+ armor save spearmen hitting most enemies on 2+ with ap. - greataxe infantry 2 attacks hitting on 2+ at S5 with ap? Yes please. - sisters cheaper as non spellcasting harassment unit, and gaining multiple shots. Spellcasting option sti...

Re: 9th Age WE Lores - First Impressions
I'm sure there are lots of tactical implications of the 9th age rules I'm not seeing yet, but my first impression is that I'll be going back to L4 heavens backed up by a unit of Sisters. The Heavens attribute isn't huge, but it is still quite nice and should be able to make a difference when and whe...

Re: All a dream?
Yeah, I realised that it was a community project soon after posting that. I've spent a few hours grazing through the rules looking for how each part will mesh together. I often thought the biggest problem with GW rules in recent years is that each rule is fine in a vacuum, but once you put them toge...

All a dream?
So, I had basically purged warhammer from my life (with great regret) after AoS turned out to be everything I had feared, this being the proverbial camel-maiming straw after 20 years of devotion to the hobby. Although I have been feeling a strong compulsion to do some painting recently. Now I was ju...

Re: Quiting Warhammer
I won't be getting rid of my army, I'm still in the middle of a rebuilding project and I love most of the current wood elf models, and I still have hopes that AoS will tank badly enough to force GW to bring back warhammer in a form recognisable to what I have played for the last 20 years. I won't be...

Re: 3D Printing Files?
I have seen 40k scenery like Tau buildings done on 3d printer, but they are smooth shapes and clean lines. Not sure how textured surfaces would come out, but at worst you could print the basic form of a building or something and use liquid greenstuff to create a textured surface. Also seen people de...

Re: 2400 Woodelf list with ETC restrictions
I'm not sure about putting the metalweaver on foot. Might be worth keeping him in the bus so he's always in range to cast glittering robe on them, 5+ scaly skin will help their durability nicely.

Re: 2400 Woodelf list with ETC restrictions
While you will probably be casting shield of thorns mostly for the heal, don't underestimate the value of the extra hits in combat, so make sure you cast it on a unit likely to spend time in combat . 2d6 s3 hits isn't much, but that happens in both players turns, cast on the right unit, one casting ...

Re: How to beat gunline dwarves?
And remember that you can ignore the cannons. Unless you give them a high value target like a treeman or unicorn weaver to shoot, cannons are probably the smallest threat in his army. They will probably kill one or two elves each per turn at most. Kill the organ gun, and copters first, then grudge t...

Re: I was right.
Well I think we can probably say you were partly right at least. Beasts is not one of our top choice lores. High, dark & shadow are probably our top lores now, maybe heavens too. However, beasts is certainly not bad, and is at least as good a choice as any of the others, probably better than sev...

Re: I was right.
Sorry Millingskink, but you are seriously underestimating the survivability of that build.
I run the same combat weaver in my EG. Usually he uses dark magic, rather than beasts, but he doesn't often die, unless I do something stupid like getting the unit into combat with a tooled up blender lord.

Re: How to beat gunline dwarves?
Probably the most efficient way to beat them would be using the acorn to ensure plenty of woods for cover modifiers and hiding places for scouts, lots of hagsbane scouts and trueflight guard, L4 heavensweaver and some sisters. With to hit modifiers stacking up, their bs shooting will struggle to hit...

Re: A magicless Army
With Fast Shots on average you need 24 shots to take down a T3 Lord level caster with a 4++, provided you are hitting on 4+ (sniper, long range, multiple shot, movement) It's 3 turn worthy of 4 Waystalkers aiming at the same character. I used to use 3 waystalkers, and I don't remember ever having t...

Re: Magic Resistance- how vital
Personally I only bother on sisters. They already have a 4+ ward, so spending a few points to boost it to 2+ against spells is worthwhile.
Otherwise I'd rather spend my points elsewhere and trust my mages to dispel the enemy spells, or waystalkers to kill the mages.

Re: A magicless Army
If I were to try an army without magic I would generally go light in characters all-around, as our combat characters don't cut it. This way, the points could go on more units.
That said, I would probably still take at least 3 or 4 waystalkers, to help shut down enemy magic by killing their mages.

Marching is done in the remaining moves phase, so of course they can march out of the unit.

Re: Glade Riders- Benefits of Command?
Sorry Bill, I don't like it either and have refused to use it ever since the first time I tried it with a netling assisted bsb and eternal guard in 6th ed. It is a horrible tactic which completely trashes immersion and suspense if disbelief. But it is legit by RAW. You do not target the unit. You al...

That would generally make a beastsinger/weaver less attractive, since you already have the spells he offers.Millingskink wrote:Are you using Khaine magic?
That makes a significant difference. Especially since you can pick up two lores on the sisters for the price of one.

Re: Glade Riders- Benefits of Command?
If you look at p.93 of the brb under champions and combat, it clearly states that: 1. Attacks can be directed at the champion. 2. Wounds inflicted on the unit can overflow onto the champion, but not the other way around. 3. Wounds inflicted on the unit only overflow onto the champion once the rest o...

Re: I was right.
Yeah, if I didn't have curse from the sisters and PoD on my darkweaver, I'd definitely take beasts. I still do sometimes, but having sisters means I can take a darkweaver to boost the strength of my EG, and it is mainly curse and wyssans which I'd take beasts for, although amber spear and savage bea...

Re: Multiple Shots Question
I don't remember if it's mentioned in the current rulebook, but I have seen this abstraction clearly stated in both some of the previous edition warhammer rulebooks and several times over the years in white dwarf articles by members of the development team. I believe Jervis even wrote a fair sized a...
