Re: the new banners - joke of the year?
Don't mean to be pedantic, but we did get three pages of Magic Items. Well, technically 2.7 pages. The Enchanted arrows count. I think this is a large reason why you see more expensive magic items in our book compared to others. Having the ability to double up on Enchanted Items between Enchanted A...

Re: the new banners - joke of the year?
As for writing all 3 books at once and the issues with the BotWD, are DE and WE missing out on that banner? It seems like the knee jerk reaction is comparing between the books but only select options. I imagine a lot of HE players wished they had gotten AP bows or spears. If there were a "like...

Re: Wood Elves weakest of the elves?
I don't think that WE are at their best when trying to field huge masses of arrows; I don't think that example supports the argument best. WE shooting excels because it can bring shooting mechanics that noone else possesses, and pair it with strong magic. Yes, repeater crossbows can field more shots...

Re: Wood Elves weakest of the elves?
Arrows do not win games, at least not to the same state as Cannons or War Machines. Cannons>Arrows every time, i am afraid. While i will agree with you, we have the best ranged weapons in the game for taking out chaff due to True Flight Arrows and are good at targeting War Machines due to Poison, t...

Re: How and When do you use the HoDA?
Yes, I also use it to reduce enemy shooting. I also use it to finish off Wounded monsters. One useful component is that you can use it as insurance, helping to shore up the performance of any ranged unit that seriously underperformed. It's a nice way to keep your gameplan together if you have a bad ...

Re: How do you deal with dwarf scum!
After 6 games where things aren't working, you need to modify your tactics rather than modifying your list, such as not walking Fast Cavalry into range of Irondrakes. You have 30 inch range on your weapons. If he's Irondrake heavy, his range is very short. Nothing says you have to advance, so fire a...

Re: Wood Elves weakest of the elves?
HE are the harder match up for WE I feel, just thanks to Phoenixes. Flying monsters remain a worry for us. ...Well, Hagbane takes care of Phoenixes pretty nicely. I do think HE are the tougher WE matchup though. I'd say it's because of the following: -Core Heavy Cavalry demands attention from Waywa...

Re: Where has all the melee gone?
It's important to understand the mechanics at work in this book. It's fundamentally different than any other book out there, as has been mentioned. Units like Eternal Guard and Treemen, with Stubborn, serve two functions: the first is a unit that can protect the Wood Elf shooting line, delaying and ...

Re: Spirit Sword Viability and Implementation
The Spirit Sword v Runefang comparison doesn't do us much good; the Runefang is a good example of an expensive weapon. The Runefang costs a lot, but leaves enough Magical allowance for the character to grab some additional useful kit as well as easily getting a 1+ Save, as mentioned. Another strong ...

I think simply from a model --> rules and WYSIWYG, why give a model a sword that does absolutely nothing? Shoot, just tell us the reason he has the high stat line he does is because of the sword and while it would still be dissapointing, it would at least make sense! Compare Durthu's sta...

Re: Durthu's Sword...
I hate Durthu's sword, it makes no sense to me. The smash and bash with there knotted trunk fists and arms. Why would you need a sword???? Your arms are clubs. It's symbolic, to represent the fact that Durthu has "taken up the sword". A formerly wise, peaceful and beneficent being now liv...

Re: Where has all the melee gone?
Wood Elf characters have always benefited from having specific roles or assignments they need to fill. That's generally my philosophy on all characters in Fantasy; they should be able to do something the rest of the army cannot. For wizards and the BSB, this job is easy: regular units can't carry Ar...

Re: Wood Elves Monstrous Cav Unit!
Is that really what your opponent is going to be shooting at though? I'm no top tournament player but even I know that a unit of wild riders who just vanguarded towards me is going to hit my lines sooner than these guys. I feel like threat saturation is going to be the best means of defense here. I...

Re: Wood Elves Monstrous Cav Unit!
I want to say I really like the idea, but I am leaning in the direction of 'Why not more WR'? I seems like in terms of spells that would benefit this Stagstar, the WR will get the same & be cheaper for it. Yeah, I think this conversation isn't about "what's better", because you're abs...

Re: Wood Elves Monstrous Cav Unit!
One thing with going all Glade Captains is that you don't get a huge advantage over simply using Wild Riders. You can get some decent survivability with 4++ Wards, but if you're stuck using mundane weapons then you're paying for a Glade Captain on Stag whose hitting power is almost statistically ide...

My BSB has been using the HoDA and Bow of Loren in a unit of Sisters of the Thorn since the book dropped. I haven't really contemplated the need for anything else at this point... I'm pretty well satisfied with his role as a support piece.

Re: Tethlis' Army Blog: 2 new Batreps, updated 5/5
Sorry for the slow update. Been playing lots of games, but less time to write them up. Since my last update, I played a couple of games with dual Treeman just to say I gave them a fair shake. List was something like: -Treeman Ancient (Level 4) with Strangleroots -Glade Captain with Bow of Loren, Hai...

Re: 2x10 Waywatchers a necessity?
The very first list I built with the book had 2 x 10 Waywatchers, and I haven't really looked back since. In the games I've played so far, they've directly generated more points than any other unit on the table, and they have yet to give up their points. Skirmishers with 30 inch range (effective 40 ...

Re: Of the Forests
Also, I personally don't care if the enemy has poison or not. My army is all t3, so poison doesn't really make a huge difference against my units. I want them in that forest so my wild riders can flank charge them, do a crapload of wounds, and have them not be steadfast This is the point in my mind...

Absolutely - he had a Great Cannon and Stone Thrower with Flaming runes, as well as a Flame Cannon and an Organ gun and Gyrocopter. See the thing is, our scouting, poison-shooting insanity makes it very easy to wipe war machines out. In my game with the Treeman, I wiped out Organ gun, flame cannon,...

No, my main issue with them is that they for some reasons are as uncomfortable around forests as dwarven warriors, and this just feels soooooo wrong, but I doubt it will be Errata:ed. I think It's just a lazy oversight by Mr. Ward: He didn't realize that they would loose stubborn in forests, once t...

How big are the units of warriors? What kind of units have you tried so far? With such a static list, how is he defending against faster troops like Wild Riders? A unit of Wild Riders in the flank is going to make a fantastic mess. Treemen are also great in this matchup. They can survive multiple ro...

The Shadow Attribute is great for removing vulnerable casting characters from comvat, and adding more lethal/dangerous combat characters to a fight where they are needed. The only reason I don't utilize it more often is because I rarely field characters on foot in this new book.

I have been n running 7 also, as evidenced in my battle reports. A good balance of disposability, number if attacks and ablative Wounds compared to smaller or larger formations. I don't bother with characters for them, due to the fragility of WE characters and the fact that you can almost buy a seco...

Re: How to deal with a nurgle demon prince?
That's why you shoot him off the table with Waywatchers. The point about countercharging him was in response to how to tie him with up a Treeman. With five Strength 6 Attacks it will still take him at least a couple rounds to go through a Treeman. Waywatchers are a thing of beauty here though. If I ...
