Re: Hi I'm Rose I'm from Wisconsin

I am from Wisconsin and now live in OC as well, but I am the wood elf player and its my wife who beats me up with her nurgle. We are not interested in AoS at all, but if you guys are looking for more people to play with I can point out some clubs and groups that do so regularly.

Re: why are we so afraid of cannons?

I have, of late, ran an army that was highly vulnerable to mass war machines, especially for a Wood Elf list. Target saturation has assisted me (people tend to shoot the wrong things) as well as using large TF blocks to surgically remove enemy war machines. To me, it is really how easy it is to out ...

Re: Ninth Edition - End Times for real?

When they redid 40k a couple years ago, it was a giant mess and not very well received. The tournament community largely rejected parts of it. They were pretty quick to put out another new edition shortly thereafter. My gut feeling is that they are going to do something very radical (by GW standards...

Re: Sisters of the thorn

It seems like just about every list I see on here has a Spellweaver of some variety leading their army. Would SotT provide enough magical firepower to make an effective magic phase with 2 units of SotT and a Lv 2 Singer? Well then your magic defence lacks very much and you habe to force spells to b...

Re: Sisters of the thorn

Actually, its not as crucial as one might surmise. I managed to go 4-1 with two pairs of sisters and Orion leading the army (no other mages) at Pauls CoC GT, but I am used to running low magic armies. Basically, it comes down to a few changes in tactics in the magic phase. Elves without any forest s...

Re: Wardancers and Waywatchers

I own 40 war dancers (got four of the anniversary boxes when they were unloading them for pennies on the dollar at games day) and some spearmen that can represent either WD or EG. I think 15 points for a skirmishing T3 S3 model is just too much to pay, so they have not seen much use since the last b...

Re: Wardancers and Waywatchers

That's a pretty big chunk of points. I think it would be fun to try out (I actually have the models to run that), but I see most people treating it like a Witch elf bus (either ignoring it or shooting it to ribbons) and a lot of points sitting idle all game long.

Re: Sisters of the thorn

I was not talking about units of chariots, but they do the trick against single monsters and solo chariots of most types. This is especially true if your opponent disregards them as a threat and exposes a flank or rear (or is worried about wild riders from another direction). The basic chaos chariot...

Re: Sisters of the thorn

@Sunstrider- Razorfate covered most of it, but here is what I typically use my Sisters for (when I rock the unicorn): 1) Monster/Chariot/War Machine/Chaff hunting- The poison attacks, extreme speed, and general resiliency make them excellent at bringing down unarmored monsters, many chariots, and an...

Re: Sisters of the thorn

Depends on your needs and the rest of the army. I run MSU, with a unicorn and lots of true flight backing it up. The two five packs serve numerous roles for me, so that's what I use. If you don't need monster hunting from them and/or do not like High Lore, then go with the bus or take one unit and a...

Re: Sisters of the thorn

Not saying the 5 packs are why I am competitive, but I just want to point out that they do work in a competitive list. I generally am the top BP and overall guy at GTs I have used woodies at the last year (among WE players) or so and always when I brought my two five packs. They are just not as simp...

Re: Sisters of the thorn

If you are going to make the deathstar net build, then a total unit size of ten is what you want. I personally think this is not the best way to win with the army and use a pair of 5 packs that serve numerous support roles, from supplemental casters, monster hunters, to traditional fast cavalry role...

The only viable setups are in the Sister Star or in a spearmen unit. The lore is fairly combat centric and has few subtle uses.

Re: Wardancers and Waywatchers

The units have their uses. If you have no other way to kill 1+ armor or you just want to scout to harass people/win the vanguard game, Waywatchers are a solid choice in any size. Their usefulness largely depends on your army build, however. Personally, I tend to bring a five pack just to negate enem...

Re: Unicorn Lone Weaver

Yes and no. In events where hills do not block LOS or I know there is going to be a lack of cannons, I take Warhawks or I just make sure to keep my drop total nice and low. And for reference, I have taken her to competitive events and done very well with her, as in cracking top five in nearly every ...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

That solves the interposing unit problem (for non large targets), but not the distance problem for war machines or other forms of cover (being in a building or ruins, being behind woods, ect). I also am not a fan of magic dependent strategies, especially that rely on one spell getting off (with the ...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

There is also the reliability to consider. If I get a 5er of Sisters or WW into combat with that war machine on turn two, then I can use the GG to shred advancing infantry. Also, with TF I can put my combat units in the way and keep the enemy tentative to advance. In my experience, most people are n...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

Well, it really depends on the target in question. Here are some of the more common things I see and what I do about them. Demon Prince of Nurgle/Tzeench- Ignore it (or contain it with Wild Riders), maybe blow up an item with Arcane Unforging, and then tank it late game with Unicorn to run out the c...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

L4 High, Scroll, Sword of Antiheros, and Talisman of Preservation has been my most productive build, when I am not sneaking a frog scroll in there. It opens up a lot of options on how you use her and you don't need to dump more points on characters. Two five packs of Sisters (who serve other purpose...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

In my personal experience, WW are not essential in large numbers. One modest sized unit to chip down armor has always gotten it done for me. I leave the armor hunting to the Wild Riders. For me, I don't like the MR penalty counting for Sister units when the only source in the army is a Unicorn that ...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

A chaos player can pack as many as two flying lord choices with the 3++ save and still hit higher comp, provided he does not combine it with the rerolling 1s ability. If the rest of his list is fairly weak and tame, he might even hit 13 or so. The HE I Win Banner gets comped super hard (as it should...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

Mass Archery, Sister Bus, Scout Spam, Wild Rider Spam Basically, you get to pick two things off of that list if you want a high comp score or three if you want a medium score. Loophole units include Eternal Guard, Branch Wraiths, Warhawk Riders, and Treemen. All are ridiculously undercosted in the s...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

I recently started up my warhammer blog again. Every army I have used since I think Paca this past year is up there. I know I put up my list from the last Alamo on this site someplace. Bear in mind that I have been using a dragon lately, which I consider sub par, as well as eagles to give my army so...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

Well, here is how I make stuff work: Unicorn Girl- With M10, she can pretty much go engage perimeter units in complete safety. If you set her up to counter charge, other units like the Wild riders can threaten anyone who wants to jump in. Usually, though, its get some counters and sneak into the bac...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Masters/Swedish?

She is M10 swift. You set up your army with defense in depth and several counter charges. The minute the Dragon closes in to prepare a breath, you should have something able to counter charge it. If it hangs back, pepper either it or something more juicy with true flight. When you do get the sacrifi...
