Re: [5th Edition] Beating Chaos Knights?

I'm not sure where to find the old articles today. I remember writing some fairly exhaustive stuff on my on free 5mb website back in the 90's. :D There were so many tactica websites around back then and the focus was very much on the friendly game with tournaments rarely a big influence. I went to a...

Re: [5th Edition] Beating Chaos Knights?

Chaos Knights are a nightmare to deal with in 5th edition. Glade Guard are also utterly worthless in 5th edition. To defeat Chaos Knights; take the charge with Wardancers doing Shadows Coil and then counter charge with a Treemen/Chariots/Dryads with Oak aspect. That was about the only way I was able...

Re: 9th Age

I love the look of the magic items and magic changes. You can run a Lev 2 defensive mage like you could back in 5th/6th edition. There will be less game winning spells cast and magic will have less influence on the game. I love the balance changes as well. Forest Spirits are viable again. I will sti...

Re: Thoughts on Treemen Ancient

I'm currently tossing up between two slightly different builds for an upcoming weekend of gaming with five other mates. One army has a TA and a second Treemen whilst the other looks more traditional with a L4 Shadow Weaver and Eternal Guard as the anvil unit. Against the opponents I will be playing ...

I'm liking the looks of these changes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BdUboMHSwUrb4NHIqP4OihW7OL03V91gWrF79Ha0_2I/pub#h.fgyxcxtc2nq2 Magic item changes seem a no brainer for me. Looking to use those changes within out gaming group pretty soon. The game winning spells have received nerfs and the...

Re: Thoughts on Treemen Ancient

I have used my Ancient in my last few games and well, what they (you) say about them is true. Not much damage output but can hold an enemy in place for a long time. These are my conclusions after my games with him: 1. Life magic is great! He held a WoC demon prince in place for 9 rounds of combat s...

Thoughts on Treemen Ancient

I recently broke out my old Durthu model against my High Elf opponent to give the Treemen Ancient another burl. The reason I was attracted to him was that he fills two roles in the army at a decent price. You get a Treemen who isn't quite as good at putting out damage but he has an extra wound and y...

Re: Heads Exploding! Age of Sigmar Rules Released Online

This game is focused on individual models and heroes and not units of troops. Despite going for uber simple rules; Games Workshop failed to get rid of the whole round of rolling saving throws. Why not eliminate this round of rolls? Ugh. The Australia tax is definitely still in effect. $250 for the s...

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations

My word. Those Age of Smegma Space Marines make me shake my head in disbelief. What is the thought process from Games Workshop here? Hmm, Space Marines sell like hotcakes, why don't we create fantasy Space Marines? Problem solved!

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations

I also dig smaller scale games that are quick and fast. The problem for gw is that there are already established and better systems out there that I would much rather play.
I've also got a mid war german army to put together for flames of war.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations

I only play with my mates who I have been playing with for some 20 years now. Not too bothered by this dumbed down Age of Fantasy Space Marine game. We will continue playing 8th and tweaking rules and items where we can agree. For a start I'm going to start using some magic items from the old army b...

I also find units of 5 useful. As has been stated; they are the only chaff-like fast cavalry we have outside of the unreliable glade riders. I haven't fielded them with a standard and musician but will do so after reading this thread. I like the idea of duffing up chariots and soul grinders. They ar...

Re: How to boil down what Magic Lores you use.

I remember reading a similar thread when the book first came out. I would be interested to see what people think now we have all had a year to play with the new Wood Elves. I skipped the Lore of Light and Fire as they don't really offer my current build anything I don't already have. I guess I shoul...

How to boil down what Magic Lores you use.

I wrote this for myself; purely to get a clear picture of the best Magic Lore choices. I thought I would share it in case any of you folks find yourself being indecisive about what Magic Lore to go for. I always find myself umming and arring about which Magic Lores to go for in relation to my all co...

Re: Wardancers and Waywatchers

Back in the good old days (5th edition) I had a unit of everything in my army and they were all useful, horribly overpriced Warhawks and Spearelves aside. These days Wardancers are less useful and struggle to compete with other special choices. They are a very conditional unit. They can be good at d...

Re: Stubborn Treekin

Dangus. I've read the rulebook numerous times and didn't notice. I thought being a character he can do as he pleases. Oh well, the only build I've found a use for Treekin with, has been scuppered.

If I was running a Mage on a unicorn I'm not sure I really want to wang her in a unit of Treekin.

Re: help, how to beat OnG

O&G are very slow. You can very easily build an army that is charging or shooting his Doom Divers from the second turn. Warhawks, Poison Scouts and Poison Glade Riders are handy for this. Looks out for Fanatics. You can avoid his Deathstar all day and redirect it with Eagles. As has been mention...

Stubborn Treekin

I've been running Treekin in various ways since the new book came out and have always found them pretty unimpressive. They easily lose combats and break, they don't really dish out much damage, some below average rolling can ruin your day, they are expensive and clunky to use etc. However, awhile ba...

Hey everyone! I'm quite new to the Wood Elves (only played 3 games, but have been collecting and painting for about 6 months off and on), and I'm looking for advice in keeping my treemen (and ancients) alive versus the laser-guided, bark-seeking missiles that cannons seem to be in Warhammer. Right ...

Re: What We Would Change Revisited

I would like Dryads to be 10 pts. I would be happy to see Wild Riders slightly nerfed if other aspects of the army list were improved slightly. Dryads, Wardancers and Wildwood Rangers don't make it into a lot of my lists and Treekin only ever get put in when they have Durthu or an Ancient leading th...

Re: Eternal guards, how many?

I've been running a unit of 30. I find Eternal Guard a really fun unit. They give your opponent something to get into combat with and give you the fun of making some break tests that you need to pass. They are a great sticking unit and can put out some damage in a wood. I almost always put a Branchw...

While you probably won't have ranks on the WR (or theyd be way more expensive than 10 WWR anyway) they damage out put and maneuverability from our (a bit OP) wild riders is just so good I'd take those anyday. The WWR aren't bad.. but the WR are just so good I'd prefer them in nearly any situation e...

Re: so....%50 characters....

As far as casual play goes this is only a good thing. I've got mates fairly new to this edition who have trouble getting the character combinations they want with the current limits, they don't want any lords and want to spend a few more points on heroes for example. Personally, it means I can get a...

The new character changes are really pleasing. With my Undead army I was always forced into the same character choices. Now I can just pimp my Vampire Lord out a bit more with magic and save a bunch of points on characters and get more troops. My mate who has Ogres will be able to get a Hero Level B...

Re: Need a new way to play our beloved psychopathic treehugg

A unit of 10 Wardancers sitting in a Venom Wood are about as good a disincentive to charge as a unit of Eternal Guard in the same woods. I'm really looking forward to trying them out more in units bigger than five or six where I'm hoping they will actually do some decent damage.
