Re: Mollesvinet - 2016-02-05 - Bristol list tryout 4x monste

Once again, an interesting read Thomas! I hadn't realized Beasts of Nurgle were down to 3 wounds in 9th Age. 8th edition opponents do tend to be a bit horrified on discovering it's 4! You seem to have kept several elements from your previous list and changed others around. The Lion Chariot build see...

Re: Age of Sigmar to get points system

I've not played AoS. My understanding is that tournaments tend to prefer round bases but that may not be an issue for non-tournament play. The impression I've had from reading posts by AoS players is that units can still pack quite tightly when required but can move more fluidly otherwise. But in a ...

Re: Age of Sigmar to get points system

The main thing putting me off AoS is the loss of square bases and the concomitant effects on how units play and look.

Can't see them changing that.

Re: Mollesvinet - 2016-04-18 - Colchester tournament replay

I only spotted this today Thomas! I don't think the Glade Rider thing was too awful, especially considering the other controversies at the tournament and the fallout on TWF! There have been so many changes to 9th Age that everyone is making mistakes in list selection. Hopefully this will settle down...

Current rule is +1A and Multiple Shots (2) in addition, if the unit has Bow or Great Bow.

Re: 8th Edition: The King in the Woods

I'd say no, unfortunately. Orion/Hounds are Unbreakable and non-Unbreakable characters are not permitted to join units that are. Main rulebook pg78. I quite like the Hounds though. A couple of extra wounds vs shooting or magic missiles doesn't go amiss and they have a 4+ Ward vs spells. Say the enem...

Re: 9th age Woodies are out! Lets discuss!

Hi LL However, my friend plays Tomb Kings, which obviously are a different story! If they max out on magic and build cleverly with some of the Special Characters they can be decent IMHO. I haven't played them with my Wood Elves though, only High Elves. - The stuff that has reverted to 7th ed: Dryads...

Re: Branching from Ulthuan [PLOG] UPDATE 12.05 I'm not dead!

I actually want to share the stuff I come up with Now I understand. It would be less of a problem for someone whose focus was purely playing or purely painting I guess. Or to whom fluff is an entirely personal thing. My main point was more about how sources outside of tabletop wargaming, such as mu...

Re: Branching from Ulthuan [PLOG] UPDATE 12.05 I'm not dead!

When the first ET book came out my enthusiasm for Warhammer was almost completely destroyed Why not just ignore it? Some guys love End Times and that's great. But I've been able to almost totally avoid it despite being a (fairly) regular tournament player. Fluff is what we choose, not just the late...

+1

I was lucky enough to get a couple of 8th edition games against Mollesvinet which really helped kickstart my new Daemon army. Now I'm playing tournaments again, the games really motivate me to paint new units.

Re: 8th Edition: The Wild Hunt, 2500pts

The list's first counter to a Chimaera has to be a volley from Starfire to strip Regen, followed by Hagbane and/or Orion to finish it off. Might be worth deploying the Starfire late to make sure they can target it. Of course if he brings two or three, one will probably make it into combat. The more ...

Re: 8th Edition: The Wild Hunt, 2500pts

It looks pretty good.

Scroll is better than Staff though, being able to stop that one spell is priceless. I would be seriously tempted to move Eternal Flame to the Wild Riders. If a character with a 2+ Ward vs Fire gets into the Rangers it's a real problem.

Re: 8th Edition: The Wild Hunt, 2500pts

I could swap the stag captain out for a BSB on foot (and run him with the Rangers I guess). That would free up a few points for a magic banner on the Rangers (maybe flaming or swiftness), it would also give me the points for orion's hounds. I guess I felt that because so much of the list (the comba...

He's mostly fielded with wild riders for fluff reasons, but ironically they're the only unit that don't benefit from his devastating charge effect. Odd, isn't it? :) Hope you don't mind if I slip in a plug for 8th discussion on Ulthuan Spiney? HE-centric of course but we touch on all sorts: http://...

even for a close combat list I think 30 glade guard are good to have. This way you have enough arrows to take out redirectors and other chaff so that you have a clear path to the main attractions. I agree with Thomas here, in fact I feel this level of shooting is pretty much a competitive minimum f...

Re: Speculation on "New" elf models

If the thread had said, AoS only or somesuch, players of other games would probably have stayed away. But the initial post comes across as talking about GW, AoS and Wood Elves in general. Many players don't play AoS but do buy from GW and do play Wood Elves. The discontinuing of the old ranges affec...

Re: 8th Edition: The King in the Woods

Basically Orion is a Monster character who hits pretty hard in combat and has some nifty shooting attacks. His main problem is in staying alive. He is Toughness and Wounds 5, which means that even S4 hits in decent quantities can take him down. The normal defence to this in Monsters is to have two s...
