Re: Treemen Tactica

OK, good to know! Did you remember that the BSB doesn't give re-rolls for Terror tests?

Re: TOW: First thoughts on Glade Riders

Except Glade Riders don't have Move Through Cover. It's not that annoying, but it's annoying that they didn't include it in the Errata. The description of the Glade Riders in the flavour text certainly seems to suggest this is an oversight :)

Re: The FAQ we were waiting for but maybe it was better to keep waiting

Also sadly no Errata for Glade Riders, so they still don't have Move Through Cover.

Re: Treemen Tactica

Sorry, but this just isn't right. Read the rules on Lumbering, which state that models with this rule count as being in Close Order and follow all the rules for being in Close Order even when included in your army as a single model. This is an exception to the general rule for Close Order requiring...

Re: Treemen Tactica

Well, we'll just have to disagree. Maybe an FAQ will sort it out. From where I stand it seems pretty clear that Close Order units only get +1 if there are two or more models in the unit.

Use styrofoam, and cut it with hot wire, then apply glue and water effect resin.

No, Lumbering (a Behemoth special rule) means you can't join a unit.

Re: Treemen Tactica

Good article and I largely agree. Note, however, that the Treeman and Treeman Ancient absolutely do get the +1 combat res for being close order. It's granted by the "Lumbering" rule on (I think) p195 which says that such a model "is considered to be, and follows all the rules for, a ...

Treemen Tactica

Now that I've finished core, I'm starting on Rare units. In the rare slot you have 3 choices. Waywatchers, Great Eagles and Treemen. Each of these comes with some restrictions: Waywatchers require a Waystalker (an additional 85 points minimum), Great Eagles can be up to 3 per 1,000 points, and Treem...

MR 1 is not a bad idea, but the unit is unlikely to contain characters ... none of them have Scout (except Waystalker obviously).

Re: TOW: First thoughts on Deepwood Scouts

Also, made a slight mistake. They can take a Standard (don't) and a Musician (do, for the +1 to Rally). I think the Wailing Arrow is not very points efficient, and likely I will never take it. It's 20 points for a less than 1/3 chance (roughly, after to hit/wound/Ld test) to make one unit panic, onc...

TOW: First thoughts on Deepwood Scouts

Apologies for the delays to this final write up on Wood Elf core units. I’ve been busy getting the play test version of a roleplaying game finished (if you’re interested, it’s called The 23rd Letter and you can join the play test / Discord over on LateGaming.com), and now that’s out of the way I can...

Welcome back!

I’m also playing through Enemy Within. I built a model of the Berebeli for our group (I’m not the GM) which was fun.

Re: Future releases - Wishlist

My guesses: I think we will see Orion come back, because I think one of the two armies in Arcane Journal will be a Wild Hunt themed army. I thought they might do a Tree Spirit army, but given how much is still available in the Sylvaneth range, I think that’s unlikely - they seem to be steering away ...

Re: TOW: First thoughts on Glade Riders

Note: Glade Riders do NOT have the Move Through Cover special rule. I think this is an error, but until we have an errata to confirm it, I think it makes them a bit worse, but probably doesn't knock them off their number 2 spot.

Re: TOW: First thoughts on Eternal Guard

After receiving some feedback that my article on Eternal Guard was perhaps too harsh, I thought I would look into how well they would perform in a 1:1 situation against a similarly pointed Infantry unit. In this case, I'm choosing Gors from the Beastmen army, something that we can assume every Etern...

TOW: First thoughts on Glade Riders

Continuing my look at our Core choices, the penultimate unit in Wood Elf Core is Glade Riders. They are the only non-Infantry core choice, and have the same stat line as a Glade Guard but, being mounted, are M9 and have an extra attack at WS 3 for only 7 points more. They are Light Cavalry, with the...

Re: TOW: First thoughts on Dryads

Anvils aren't really a primary Wood Elf tactic, so looking for one is probably not a good plan :) Treekin feel a bit limp when you play with them. Only S4 with only AB(2), they're not reliably doing many wounds to anything other than the wimpiest units. T5, 5+/5++ is good, but you're mostly still ju...

Re: Printing figs

Be aware, you need a good place to set this up. The resin is smelly, so ideally you want it in a garage or similar. However, it also really needs to be at indoor room temperature to print correctly. It is sticky stuff and requires a lot of clean up, so be prepared. 3d printing is a hobby almost to i...

Re: GW's release plans

Most tournaments are sticking with the Rule of Three (no more than 3 of the same unit in an army), which is what GW uses for their events, and I tend to agree. It's a good way to keep spam lists out of the meta.

Re: Printing figs

I print my own. We have an Anycubic Photon Mono X2, which is pretty cheap, and ships within Europe so no big customs tax. Files can be found on myminifactory.com, cults3d.com or via Yeggi (which is a search engine for models). There are also some companies that do models for 9th age / WHFB - Last Sw...
